How To Choose Goalie Hockey Sticks?

If you are a hockey player and you have been chosen to be the goalie, you would probably already know that goalie hockey sticks are different from the hockey sticks that most other players use. First, they are basically bigger, wider and heavier than the other hockey sticks. Second, these hockey sticks have a wider blade as well as a wider paddle area as compared to other hockey sticks. The blades on these things can even go to as long as 15 inches long.

When you choose your goalie stick, you will need to get one that is just the right length for you. Just like any other hockey stick, goalie sticks need to be comfortable enough for you to use or you will find it hard to play well. This means you should not choose a hockey stick that is either too long or too short for your height. How do you determine the right length? You will need to check the length of the stick by standing in your skates while putting the toe or the very end of the stick on the floor. The right length of the hockey stick would be around your chin although some people find that shoulder height is also ideal for them.

When you do get to choose from a wide array of goalie hockey sticks in a sporting goods store, make sure that you choose one that has ample length and not one that is too short. Some people choose to get one that is long enough for them to customize since they might not have their skates with them when they purchase their hockey stick. Others choose one that is just right for them without the need to cut the shaft since some people say that cutting off the shaft of a goalie stick will leave it unbalanced and harder to use.
