Selecting Your Indoor Field Hockey Sticks
When you are choosing your indoor field hockey sticks, there are a few things that you need to consider. The final selection is essentially a matter of personal preference and so is the brand but if you want to make the right choice based on what will help you play well, you may want to take into account these few things:
- Balance and Weight – the weight of your stick should be one of the things you first consider when choosing a field hockey stick and to get to know if the weight of the hockey stick is just right for you, you should try to see if it feels comfortable and just right in your hands by your getting a feel for it. You could choose a stick that has an evenly distributed weight or you can choose one that is heavier around the toe area. This usually depends on what you are comfortable with. - Length – this is another factor that you need to take into consideration when choosing an indoor field hockey stick and since a lot of indoor field hockey sticks may be too long or too short for you, you will need to measure the stick’s length to your own height. Basically, the ideal length of an indoor field hockey stick is one that is long enough but also comfortable enough for you to use. - Flexibility and Stiffness – if you are a novice player, it would do you good to get a stick that has enough flexibility to absorb shocks. These are also more durable than the stiffer sticks you will find and will serve you well if you are still learning the sport. Those who have been playing longer and are looking to turn pro in the future often opt for stiffer sticks since these have more power than the more flexible hockey sticks available for the game.
